Position Overview

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is responsible for the safe transport of patients via ambulance while ensuring proper medical care during transit. This role includes operating emergency vehicles safely, providing Basic Life Support (BLS) when needed, and ensuring patients reach their destinations in stable condition.


Key Responsibilities

  • Log into the computer-aided dispatch system at the start of each shift within required time standards
  • Inspect ambulance and equipment before service and immediately report any issues or safety concerns
  • Maintain clear and professional communication with dispatch via radio and follow all communication protocols
  • Monitor mobile data systems and respond promptly to updates or status changes
  • Deliver patient care in accordance with local, state, and medical guidelines
  • Build and maintain professional working relationships with emergency response agencies
  • Provide clear and accurate patient reports when transferring care to hospital staff
  • Complete patient care reports (electronic or written) accurately, legibly, and on time
  • Submit all required documentation, including shift summaries and incident reports, before the end of duty
  • Review all operational updates and communications at the start of each shift
  • Clean, restock, and maintain ambulance vehicles and medical equipment as required
  • Properly store and inspect personal protective equipment and report any damage or loss
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and move patients and equipment weighing up to 125 lbs individually, or up to 250 lbs with assistance
  • Frequent movement including standing, sitting, bending, and climbing in varied environments
  • Requires strong hand coordination, alertness, and visual ability to perform essential tasks safely

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Active New York State EMT certification
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS/BCLS) certification
  • Valid New York State driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to work in high-pressure and emergency situations while maintaining professionalism

Compensation Notice

Base pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, qualifications, location, and organizational needs. Salary may vary depending on internal equity and operational requirements.
