Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Completion of an approved training program that meets both State of Oklahoma and National Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification requirements.

Experience:
At least one (1) year of related EMS experience is preferred.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Active State of Oklahoma EMT certification

  • National EMT certification (as applicable)

  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of EMT protocols, emergency response systems, and field operations

  • Ability to apply medical tools, techniques, and procedures appropriately in emergency situations

  • Clear and professional communication skills, both verbal and written, when interacting with hospital staff and the public

  • Ability to function effectively within a coordinated emergency response team

  • Professional behavior with the ability to remain calm under pressure

  • Commitment to confidentiality and protection of patient information


Position Summary

This role is responsible for delivering emergency medical care and safely transporting patients who are sick or injured to appropriate healthcare facilities. The EMT works as part of a coordinated emergency response team, providing critical support during urgent and life-threatening situations.


Work Environment

The position operates in unpredictable and rapidly changing environments, including private residences, healthcare facilities, accident scenes, and disaster locations. The role involves exposure to all types of weather conditions and potentially hazardous situations.


Physical Requirements

The job is physically demanding and requires the ability to perform strenuous tasks during emergencies. This includes lifting, bending, kneeling, stretching, and positioning patients. The role requires the ability to lift more than 50 pounds as needed.


Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency calls and operate a fully equipped ambulance to designated locations

  • Provide immediate medical assistance and basic life-saving care at the scene and during transport

  • Monitor and maintain communication with dispatch throughout emergency responses

  • Assist in safely extracting and moving patients from accident or disaster sites

  • Deliver on-site emergency treatment such as oxygen administration, wound care, splinting, and resuscitation support

  • Communicate patient condition and updates to receiving medical facilities

  • Support hospital staff by sharing relevant patient information during handoff

  • Assist with patient transfer and documentation at receiving facilities

  • Maintain cleanliness, readiness, and functionality of ambulance, equipment, and supplies

  • Restock medical materials and ensure equipment is fully operational after each call

  • Assist with scene safety, crowd control, and securing valuables when necessary

  • Support medical staff during treatment when required at healthcare facilities

  • Perform all duties in accordance with department policies and protocols

  • Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality

  • Carry out additional duties as assigned
