Position Overview:
This role supports patient care within the hospital by performing specialized clinical tasks under the guidance of a licensed nurse. Responsibilities include assisting with treatments, providing direct care, and supporting departmental operations while maintaining professional standards.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience Requirements:

  • No prior experience required

Certifications Required:

  • Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant (MA), or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification, OR two years of prior experience in an Emergency Department

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Proficiency with Windows-based software and data entry

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for clear interaction with patients, families, and team members

  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse

  • Perform clinical tasks according to departmental competencies

  • Accurately document patient care activities

  • Follow hospital policies, objectives, and procedures

  • Maintain required certifications and engage in professional development

  • Adapt communication and care approaches to meet the needs of diverse patient populations

  • Support hospital administration and nursing staff in daily operations

Compliance and Safety:

  • Stay informed about federal, state, and local regulations affecting patient care

  • Follow Ochsner Health’s Compliance & Privacy Program, reporting any unethical behavior or safety concerns

  • Ensure patient privacy and adherence to all accreditation and regulatory standards

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Routine exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue

  • Work directly with patients, including potentially infectious materials

  • Ability to meet physical demands, including assisting with patient mobility and performing clinical tasks
