Emergency Medical Technician – Intermediate (EMT-I)

Mercy is seeking a dedicated Emergency Medical Technician – Intermediate (EMT-I) to provide high-quality pre-hospital care while supporting patients during emergency and non-emergency medical responses. In this role, you’ll deliver compassionate patient care, assist with operational duties, and contribute to Mercy’s commitment to clinical excellence and outstanding service.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, evaluate, and provide Basic Life Support (BLS) and EMT-I level care according to established protocols
• Deliver safe, compassionate patient care while preparing patients for transport when necessary
• Complete accurate patient care reports and maintain required documentation
• Assist with dispatch, administrative, and clerical responsibilities as assigned
• Inspect, clean, and maintain ambulances, medical equipment, and supplies to ensure response readiness
• Operate emergency vehicles safely while following all applicable regulations and organizational policies
• Work collaboratively with fellow EMS personnel, healthcare providers, and emergency responders
• Participate in ongoing education and maintain required certifications and professional competencies
• Perform additional duties that support EMS operations and patient care services

Qualifications

• Current EMT certification valid in the state of employment
• Valid driver’s license
• Applicants must be at least 19 years old to operate Mercy EMS vehicles
• Hazardous Materials Awareness certification
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers
• Completion of NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 courses within 90 days of hire
• ITLS or equivalent trauma training preferred
• High school diploma or GED preferred

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, move, and transport patients and medical equipment with assistance
• Perform CPR and other physically demanding emergency procedures
• Work in challenging environments, including confined spaces, difficult terrain, and accident scenes
• Ability to climb stairs, kneel, bend, and stand for extended periods
• Sufficient vision, hearing, and communication abilities to safely operate emergency vehicles, assess patients, and communicate effectively during emergency responses
• Successfully complete required pre-employment and annual fitness evaluations
