Required Clearance

Primary Role
The EMT responds to medical emergencies, assists with intake screenings, and supports routine healthcare services for detainees. This role ensures timely medical care and compliance with detention center protocols and applicable federal and state regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to medical emergencies within 4 minutes, providing CPR, AED use, and first aid.

  • Conduct intake screenings within 12 hours of arrival, including vital signs, TB tests, and infectious disease assessments.

  • Assist licensed medical staff with medication administration and monitoring during emergencies.

  • Document all interventions accurately and promptly.

  • Participate in fire, disaster, and evacuation drills according to facility standards.

  • Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Complete annual training on emergency response, mental health crisis recognition, and universal precautions.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited EMT program.

  • Current state EMT certification or licensure.

  • Minimum 1 year of EMS experience; correctional healthcare experience preferred.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to federal privacy standards.

  • Capacity to perform under high-stress situations.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in documenting medical care accurately.

  • Ability to pass background investigations and meet immunization requirements.

  • Must be at least 21 years old and a US citizen or permanent resident with 3 of the last 5 years living in the US.

  • Flexible to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ACLS certification.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or other languages).

  • Previous federal investigation clearance (Tier 2 or higher) with no more than 24 months break in service.

  • Detention center experience.

Physical Requirements & Work Conditions

  • Ability to operate safely in a secure detention environment.

  • Complete training on case processing and administrative duties as required.
