Position Overview
This position supports the City of Mesquite Fire & Rescue Department by responding to emergency incidents involving fire suppression, rescue operations, and emergency medical services. Reserve personnel also assist with fire prevention efforts, public education, and the upkeep of department facilities, vehicles, and equipment. Employees may be assigned additional responsibilities consistent with departmental needs and operational priorities.
Primary Responsibilities

Represent the City of Mesquite with professionalism, respect, and sound judgment in all interactions with coworkers and the public

Respond to fire, medical, rescue, and hazardous incident calls to protect life and property
-
Operate firefighting tools, rescue equipment, EMS devices, and protective gear appropriate to assigned certifications
-
Provide emergency medical care at the Paramedic level in accordance with Southern Nevada Health District protocols
-
Transport patients when medically required and deliver continuous care during transport
-
Assist in search and rescue operations involving vehicles, structural collapse, confined spaces, and hazardous environments
-
Preserve evidence and maintain scene integrity during fire and medical incidents
-
Perform routine cleaning, inspection, and maintenance of apparatus, equipment, and fire station facilities

Participate in department training, drills, and continuing education programs
-
Support fire prevention initiatives, public outreach, and educational activities
-
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
-
Perform additional related duties as assigned

Education, Training, and Certification
-
High school diploma or GED
-
Nevada EMT-Paramedic certification
-
Southern Nevada Health District or National Registry Paramedic certification
-
IFSAC Firefighter I or Nevada Firefighter I certification (preferred)
-
Valid Nevada or approved border-state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
Special Conditions

Must be at least 18 years of age

Minimum commitment of 48 service hours per month

Required participation in mandatory training sessions

Successful completion of a physical agility test within three months of hire or possession of a current CPAT card
-
Passing of background investigation, medical examination, and drug screening
-
Position is classified as safety-sensitive and subject to ongoing testing
Working Environment
This role involves exposure to hazardous and unpredictable conditions, including fire, smoke, bodily fluids, extreme temperatures, loud noise, heights, and adverse weather. Physical demands include lifting, climbing, crawling, running, and operating equipment while wearing protective gear. Availability to work varied shifts, including nights and weekends, is required.
