Position Overview:
Paramedics deliver emergency medical care and patient transport outside of hospital settings, responding to both critical and urgent situations. Utilizing Advanced Life Support (ALS) skills, paramedics stabilize patients and provide safe transport, handling cases that range from routine medical transfers to life-threatening emergencies.
Key Responsibilities:

Respond promptly to assigned calls and update unit status as required.

Assess patients’ conditions to determine the severity of illness or injury and prioritize care following New York State Department of Health protocols.

Provide first aid and ALS interventions to sick or injured individuals in prehospital environments.

Collaborate professionally with partners, patients, public safety personnel, colleagues, and hospital staff to ensure seamless patient care.

Maintain clear communication with dispatch, medical control, and treatment facilities to relay patient information and receive guidance on care.

Document incidents thoroughly, including patient assessment, treatment provided, response to interventions, and any relevant observations.

Inspect and ensure all vehicle equipment and systems are operational; report maintenance needs to supervisors.

Guarantee compliance of all vehicles and operations with 10 NYCRR 800 and departmental regulations.

Protect and maintain department property and equipment.

Operate department vehicles safely, following New York State traffic laws and departmental policies.

Attend ongoing training sessions to maintain certifications and stay current with medical and procedural developments.

Conduct medical histories and physical assessments of patients in the field as required.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Valid New York State driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Current NYS Department of Health EMT-Paramedic certification.

Current NYC REMAC Paramedic certification.

Must fulfill NYS DOH Functional Description requirements for EMT-Paramedics, including competencies and tasks.

1–3 years of relevant prehospital experience preferred.
