Job Title: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Location: Tuscaloosa, AL Department: Operations Status: Hourly / Non‑Exempt Reports to: Area Manager

Position Summary

Excelsior Ambulance Service is seeking a skilled Advanced EMT (AEMT) to deliver emergency medical care to patients in need. Working under the direction of the Division Manager, you will provide life‑saving interventions, ensure safe patient transport, and uphold the highest standards of care in compliance with state regulations and company protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate emergency calls and determine appropriate response strategies using paramedic protocols
  • Operate medical equipment including defibrillators, oxygen systems, suction devices, and monitoring tools
  • Document patient assessments, treatments, and outcomes while maintaining confidentiality
  • Communicate with patients and families to provide reassurance and clear information
  • Collaborate with EMS team members and allied health professionals to manage scenes effectively
  • Drive and operate ambulances during emergency responses
  • Represent Excelsior Ambulance Service in community outreach programs

Physical Requirements

  • Lift/move up to 180 lbs independently and up to 300 lbs with assistance
  • Push/pull a minimum of 50 lbs
  • Sit, stand, and remain attentive for extended periods (3+ hours)
  • Respond to auditory and visual cues for safe transport and communication
  • Safely assist with patient movement using proper body mechanics
  • Pass physical agility and fitness‑for‑duty evaluations

Qualifications

  • Minimum age: 20
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current EMT/EMT‑I/AEMT license
  • Valid driver’s license with clean record
  • BLS and NREMT certification (SC & AL)
  • Successful completion of physical agility test
  • Healthcare or EMS experience preferred
