Job Description

Primary Role

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is responsible for delivering prompt medical assistance to both visitors and staff at Conner Prairie. This role follows established procedures, safety protocols, and the scope of care defined by the State of Indiana.


Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Deliver immediate first aid and medical care for both urgent and non-urgent injuries or illnesses affecting guests and employees.

  • Respond to emergency or high-stress situations, helping to calm and stabilize individuals while ensuring overall safety.

  • Maintain the First Aid station by ensuring all medical supplies and equipment are adequately stocked and ready for use, including emergency kits and mobile medical units.

  • Perform routine checks and basic maintenance on medical devices such as AEDs, stretchers, and wheelchairs, and ensure all on-site First Aid kits remain fully supplied.

  • Participate in and complete required annual safety training relevant to the position.

  • Regularly patrol the premises on foot or by vehicle to proactively identify and address potential safety concerns.

  • Relay accurate and essential medical details to external emergency responders upon their arrival.

  • Accurately document all incidents and medical responses using company reporting procedures.

  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in written form.

  • Identify hazards or unsafe conditions throughout the property and report them appropriately.

  • Follow established infection control and universal safety precautions to protect both staff and visitors.


Supervisory Duties

This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.


Qualifications

To succeed in this role, candidates must be able to perform all essential duties effectively. Reasonable accommodations may be provided where necessary.

Requirements include:

  • Valid EMT certification (EMT-Basic or higher)

  • Current CPR certification

  • Fire service experience is considered an asset

  • CPR and First Aid instructor certification is preferred

Physical Requirements

The role requires regular physical activity, including sitting, standing, walking, and using hands for various tasks. The employee must frequently lift up to 50 pounds independently and heavier loads with assistance. Occasional climbing, bending, kneeling, and similar movements may be required.

Visual abilities must include near and distance vision, color recognition, peripheral awareness, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus as needed.


Work Environment

The position involves both indoor and outdoor work, including exposure to varying weather conditions. Occasionally, the role may require working near machinery, at elevated locations, or in environments with potential hazards such as chemicals, temperature extremes, or electrical risks. Noise levels are typically moderate.


Schedule

Conner Prairie generally operates from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. However, this role requires flexibility to work extended hours, including evenings, special events, and festivals.
