Job Description: Paramedic – Behavioral Health Co-Respondent Team

Location: New Parkland Hospital, City of DeSoto
Shift: Monday – Friday, 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM

Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Paramedic to join our Behavioral Health Co-Respondent Team. Partnered with a social worker, you will respond to community-based 911 mental health calls and case management referrals. This role requires delivering high-quality patient care, accurate documentation, and timely coordination with nurses, physicians, and pre-hospital staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond promptly to calls from field paramedics via the BioTel system, prioritize incidents, and direct field personnel.

  • Evaluate patient condition, collect data, document medical history, treatments, and medications.

  • Collaborate with BioTel physicians and allied healthcare providers to ensure proper patient care and transport coordination.

  • Maintain compliance with Trauma Protocols, EMS Protocols, BioTel Clinical Practice Guidelines, and Parkland policies.

  • Enter patient data accurately into the BioTel database and maintain thorough records of care provided.

  • Support teamwork with EMS personnel, hospitals, fire departments, and law enforcement to ensure coordinated patient care.

  • Participate in quality management initiatives, research projects, and ongoing professional development.

  • Assist with shift preparations, including stocking supplies, organizing equipment, and ensuring readiness for upcoming shifts.

  • Accept additional shifts as needed and cover cancelled shifts to maintain staffing requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an EMT-Paramedic program.

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in pre-hospital or emergency care settings.

  • Preferred experience with BioTel agencies or air-medical services.

  • Current EMT-Paramedic certification from the Texas Department of Health.

  • Current CPR certification from American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Military Training Network.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of BioTel Medical Control System, EMS protocols, and clinical practice guidelines.

  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Ability to interact professionally with patients, families, and healthcare staff.

  • Sound judgment to handle complex clinical situations independently.

  • Competence in standard pre-hospital procedures, equipment use, and regulatory guidelines.

  • Commitment to patient-centered care and professional behavior.
