Schedule: Monday–Friday | 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM
Assignment: City of DeSoto
We are seeking an experienced Paramedic to serve on a Behavioral Health co-response unit. In this role, you will partner with a licensed social worker to answer 911 calls related to mental health crises, as well as selected community case management referrals. The team focuses on delivering compassionate, patient-centered care in the field while helping connect individuals to appropriate resources and services.
Position Overview
The Paramedic is accountable for delivering safe, evidence-based emergency care, ensuring precise patient assessment, and maintaining clear communication with healthcare professionals across pre-hospital and hospital settings. This role requires sound clinical judgment, strong collaboration skills, and strict adherence to established EMS and trauma protocols.
Qualifications
Education
-
Completion of an accredited Paramedic (EMT-P) program
Experience
-
Minimum of two (2) years in pre-hospital and/or emergency medical services
-
Experience with a BioTel or air medical program preferred
Licensure & Certifications

Current Texas EMT-Paramedic certification
-
Valid Texas driver’s license

Current CPR for Healthcare Providers (AHA, American Red Cross, or Military Training Network)

Thorough understanding of EMS, trauma, and BioTel clinical protocols

Strong verbal and written communication abilities

Ability to collaborate effectively with patients, families, EMS crews, physicians, and hospital teams

Knowledge of regulatory standards and pre-hospital best practices

Capacity to manage complex clinical scenarios using independent judgment

Proficiency with BioTel systems and related equipment
Core Responsibilities

Respond promptly to field communications through the BioTel system, triage calls, collect and document patient data, and guide paramedic teams according to approved protocols

Coordinate patient transport and maintain communication with receiving facilities, ensuring smooth transitions of care

Keep updated on EMS regulations, trauma guidelines, and institutional policies affecting field operations

Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the BioTel database

Foster collaborative relationships with EMS agencies, hospitals, fire departments, and law enforcement

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and research projects to enhance pre-hospital care standards

Support staffing needs as required and ensure readiness of work areas between shifts
