Job Summary

Bay Mills Emergency Connection is seeking a qualified EMT-Basic to provide safe, professional prehospital emergency medical care in accordance with Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) requirements and Eastern Upper Peninsula Medical Control Authority (EUPMCA) protocols.

The EMT will assess and treat patients, provide basic life support, transport patients, manage emergency scenes, and work with other healthcare professionals, law enforcement, fire agencies, and medical first responders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform patient histories, assessments, triage, and basic emergency medical care.
  • Provide oxygen therapy, airway care, shock management, and basic injury care within EMT scope.
  • Manage spinal and fracture-related emergencies according to approved protocols.
  • Safely transport patients and provide appropriate care during transportation.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare providers, police, fire personnel, and other agencies.
  • Operate EMS equipment and assist with patient disentanglement.
  • Participate in mass-casualty assessment and triage.
  • Maintain scene safety and assist with emergency scene management.
  • Operate, maintain, and care for EMS vehicles and equipment.
  • Provide guidance and support to less-experienced medical first responders.
  • Participate in community education, CPR instruction, orientation, and public awareness activities as assigned.
  • Attend all mandatory training designated by the EMS Coordinator.
  • Assist with staffing coordination, quality improvement, billing, safety, insurance processing, equipment, transportation, and other operational functions when assigned.
  • Assist at other facilities during periods of low activity when requested.

Requirements

  • Current Michigan prehospital license applicable to the EMT level through MDHHS.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Meet EUPMCA requirements and applicable medical control protocols.
  • Michigan driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to organize work, prioritize tasks, and work effectively with others.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Flexibility to meet staffing and patient-care needs.
  • Strong employment history and professional work record.
  • Ability to successfully perform all essential job functions.

Physical Requirements

Emergency medical services require the ability to:

  • Lift and carry up to 100 pounds for at least 100 feet, including up and down a flight of stairs.
  • Work with a partner to load a 250-pound stretcher and patient into an ambulance.
  • Climb stairs and ladders and safely squat and kneel.
  • Maintain sufficient vision to read maps, medication containers, and ampules.
  • Maintain sufficient hearing to communicate during high-noise emergency situations.
  • Meet the physical demands necessary to protect yourself, your partner, and patients.

Professional Standards

All patient care must comply with applicable MDHHS requirements and EUPMCA protocols. The EMT is expected to exercise sound judgment, maintain professional communication, protect patient confidentiality, and consistently deliver quality prehospital care.
