Medical Assistant / EMT – Urgent Care
AFC Urgent Care in South Portland is seeking experienced Medical Assistants and EMTs to join our growing clinical team. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside skilled healthcare providers in a fast-paced urgent care setting while delivering outstanding patient care. Both full-time and part-time opportunities are available.
Position Responsibilities
- Welcome and prepare patients by collecting medical histories, recording vital signs, and performing clinical triage.
- Conduct point-of-care testing, including rapid strep, influenza, COVID-19, mononucleosis, urinalysis, glucose, and pregnancy testing.
- Assist providers during examinations and minor medical procedures.
- Perform phlebotomy, electrocardiograms (EKGs), and other approved clinical tasks.
- Administer medications under provider direction and according to established protocols.
- Contact patients with follow-up information and assist with care coordination.
- Complete laboratory quality control procedures and maintain accurate records.
- Support occupational health services such as drug screening, alcohol testing, spirometry, and related employer programs.
- Assist with patient registration, answer incoming calls, and provide excellent customer service.
- Help onboard and train new clinical staff members while promoting teamwork and quality care.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current Medical Assistant certification/registration or EMT certification.
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- At least three years of Medical Assistant or EMT experience preferred.
- Experience performing patient triage in a clinical setting.
- Dependable with the flexibility to work assigned weekday and weekend shifts.
- Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
- Comfortable using electronic medical records and other healthcare technology.
- Friendly, compassionate, and committed to providing exceptional patient experiences.
Scheduling
Full-Time
- Up to three 12-hour shifts per week.
- Up to four weekend shifts each month.
Part-Time
- Up to two 12-hour shifts per week.
- Up to two weekend shifts each month.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive hourly pay ranging from $24–$29.
- Additional weekend shift differential.
