Position: Patient Care Assistant / EMT

Location: Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital, 933 E Pierce St, Council Bluffs, IA

Shifts: 3pm-11pm, 7pm-7am, 7am-7pm (as needed)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support in patient care, assisting with vital signs, hygiene, and clinical procedures such as EKGs and phlebotomy (if certified).
  • Maintain positive interactions with patients, families, visitors, and colleagues, demonstrating professionalism and courtesy at all times.
  • Prepare and clean patient rooms, clinical equipment, and department spaces to ensure a safe and efficient environment.
  • Assist nurses with admissions, discharges, and patient transport within the facility.
  • Manage clerical tasks, including phone operations, record-keeping, and supply organization.
  • Support departmental projects, performance improvement initiatives, and onboarding of new personnel.
  • Report patient condition changes promptly and follow proper documentation protocols.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or EMT program preferred.
  • Patient care experience in vital signs, EKGs, or related clinical support.
  • BLS certification required within three months of hire; CNA or EMT certification preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain positive relationships in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Medium physical work, including lifting up to 50 lbs, walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, and frequent use of hands and fingers.
  • Ability to safely interact with biological agents, sharps, and other routine healthcare hazards.
