Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Correctional Health Services
The Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) is seeking a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to provide high-quality medical care within the Utah State Correctional Facility. This role requires working collaboratively with healthcare staff, correctional officers, and incarcerated individuals in a secure environment.
Key Responsibilities

Provide emergency medical care and respond promptly to urgent situations

Administer medications in accordance with CHS policies and procedures

Conduct physical assessments and refer patients to a registered nurse, physician, or other licensed healthcare professional when additional evaluation is needed

Maintain emergency kits and first-aid supplies, checking for expired or missing items and restocking as necessary

Perform patient care tasks such as monitoring vital signs, administering diabetic care, performing EKGs, collecting blood samples, wound care, and dressing changes

Assess patient needs based on referrals and prioritize care accordingly

Ensure adequate medical supplies and equipment are available at all times

Accurately prepare, review, and process medical documentation according to agency policy

Receive, inspect, store, and manage medical equipment, supplies, and other materials

Minimum Qualifications

Valid EMT certification
-
Ability to work effectively with healthcare staff, correctional officers, and incarcerated individuals
Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience as an EMT
Schedule
-
Shifts available for both day and night coverage
-
CHS operates 24/7, 365 days a year
-
EMTs work 12-hour shifts, averaging 7 shifts within a 2-week period
-
Rotating holidays and weekends required
-
Shift schedules follow a predictable, repeating pattern
Physical Requirements & Workplace Considerations

Ability to stand, walk on uneven surfaces, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly

May be exposed to hazards such as contagious diseases, chemicals, or operating equipment

Must follow safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
