Position Overview

A healthcare facility in Iowa is seeking an EMT or Paramedic for a 13-week assignment supporting both county emergency medical services and the hospital Emergency Department. This position offers guaranteed overnight ambulance shifts along with additional PRN opportunities based on operational needs.

The role is ideal for EMS professionals who enjoy a combination of ambulance response, patient transportation, and hands-on support within an Emergency Department.

Compensation

• EMT: $900–$1,000 gross per week
• Paramedic: $1,150–$1,250 gross per week

Position Details

• Openings: 1
• Start Date: ASAP
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks
• EMR: Epic
• Schedule: Two guaranteed 12-hour overnight shifts per week
• Guaranteed Shifts: Thursday and Friday
• Hours: 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
• Additional Shifts: PRN shifts may be available on other days as needed

Key Responsibilities

• Respond to 911 emergency calls within the county EMS system.
• Provide ambulance transportation and patient transfers to the hospital.
• Transport patients to the University of Iowa hospital system when required.
• Deliver appropriate prehospital assessment and patient care.
• Manage primarily low-acuity emergency calls while remaining prepared for higher-volume periods.
• Assist with patient care in the Emergency Department when not assigned to the ambulance.
• Perform CNA-related patient support duties within the Emergency Department.
• Accurately document patient care and services using Epic and applicable systems.
• Work collaboratively with EMS and hospital staff to maintain safe, compassionate patient care.

Workload

The EMS service typically handles approximately 2–5 calls per day, although daily volume can fluctuate significantly depending on community needs and emergency activity.

Required Qualifications

• Current Iowa EMT or Paramedic license.
• EMT/Paramedic compact licensure accepted where applicable.
• Paramedics must hold current ACLS and PALS certifications.
• Ability to work overnight 12-hour shifts.
• Strong patient-care, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to provide care in both prehospital and Emergency Department environments.
