Overview
We’re looking for a calm, organised professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment to join our team as a Transfer Centre Specialist. This role supports patient movement between outside facilities and Texas Children’s Hospital, and helps place patients in appropriate beds by coordinating with Bed Control. Cross-training in both Transfer Center and Bed Control ensures you’ll be fluent in admission logistics, bed placement rules, and regulatory requirements.

Minimum requirements
– High school diploma or GED
– At least 1 year of experience in a transfer center, 911 dispatch, or other relevant clinical role
Preferred credentials and experience
– Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) licensed by the Texas Board of Nursing OR
– EMT-Basic credential from the Texas Department of State Health Services
– 1+ year of hands-on LVN or EMT experience
– 3+ years in a transfer center or 911 dispatch role
Important workplace note
All hires must complete respiratory fit testing as part of occupational health and safety requirements.
Key responsibilities
– Match available beds to incoming patient needs by evaluating acuity, diagnosis, age and sex
– Process transfer requests in line with federal/state regulations and hospital policy
– Maintain accurate transfer and bed placement records; help ensure data integrity
– Correctly identify patients and assign medical record numbers within the hospital’s system
– Participate in ongoing process improvement initiatives within the department
