Now Hiring: Certified Firefighter / EMT
The City of Hampton Fire & Rescue Division is seeking skilled and dedicated professionals who are passionate about serving their community. What You’ll Do
In this role, you will respond to emergency situations and provide both firefighting and medical assistance. Responsibilities include:

Suppressing and extinguishing fires using standard firefighting techniques and equipment

Rescuing individuals in hazardous situations and protecting property from damage
-
Delivering emergency medical care, including CPR, oxygen administration, and patient stabilization
-
Assisting with patient transport and ambulance operations when needed
-
Operating firefighting tools, ladders, and emergency vehicles
-
Performing ventilation, forcible entry, and overhaul operations
-
Conducting clean-up and recovery efforts after incidents
Additional Duties

Maintain fire stations, vehicles, and equipment to ensure readiness

Inspect apparatus, tools, and communication systems on a daily basis

Participate in ongoing training, drills, and professional development programs

Conduct fire safety inspections and assist with prevention initiatives

Communicate effectively with dispatch, medical personnel, and team members
-
Support inventory control, reporting, and general station upkeep
Qualifications
-
High school diploma or GED
-
Minimum age of 18

Certification as Virginia Firefighter I & II
-
Valid certification as EMT, AEMT, EMT-I, or EMT-P
-
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

Successful completion of physical agility testing and medical evaluation
-
Ability to pass background checks and required screening processes

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure

Physical capability to perform demanding tasks in extreme environments

Proficiency in operating emergency equipment and communication systems

Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and the public
Work Environment & Schedule
-
Shifts may vary (8, 12, or 24 hours), with schedules up to 56 hours per week in accordance with FLSA guidelines
-
Work involves exposure to hazardous conditions, confined spaces, heights, and high-stress situations
-
Ongoing training and performance evaluations are required
