Emergency Medical Services Part Time Job — City of Winchester
The City of Winchester is seeking a skilled, compassionate Paramedic to join our Emergency Medical Services team. The Paramedic provides advanced pre-hospital care, responds to emergency and non-emergency calls, and works with other public safety personnel to protect our community’s health and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to emergency and non-emergency medical calls, provide on-scene assessment and advanced life support (ALS).
- Administer medications, perform advanced airway management, cardiac monitoring, IV therapy, and other ALS interventions according to protocols.
- Operate and maintain emergency vehicles and medical equipment; ensure readiness, cleanliness, and proper restocking.
- Document patient care accurately and thoroughly in electronic or written patient care reports.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, hospital staff, and other public safety personnel.
- Provide safe patient packaging and transport to appropriate medical facilities when required.
- Participate in training, continuing education, drills, and quality improvement activities.
- Follow department policies, local and state EMS regulations, and maintain patient confidentiality.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid State Paramedic License or Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP) recognized by Virginia.
- Current CPR for Healthcare Provider (AHA) certification.
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record; ability to obtain/maintain emergency vehicle operator certification if required.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move patients and equipment; meet physical demands of the job (including working in confined spaces, at heights, in adverse weather, and during night shifts).
- Strong clinical assessment, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.
- Successful completion of background check and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in municipal EMS or multi-disciplinary public safety operations.
- Additional certifications (PALS, ACLS instructor, Prehospital trauma life support).
- Bilingual skills or community outreach experience.
