Flight Paramedic

Air Methods is seeking an experienced Flight Paramedic to provide advanced critical care during emergency air medical transport. This position is ideal for paramedics with extensive 911 experience who are ready to deliver lifesaving treatment in a helicopter-based critical care environment. Position Overview

The Flight Paramedic delivers advanced life support (ALS) from the initial patient encounter through transfer of care at the receiving facility. Working alongside the flight crew, you will perform comprehensive patient assessments, provide critical interventions, maintain medical equipment, and support safe aircraft operations while following Air Methods’ medical protocols and aviation safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver advanced pre-hospital emergency care during air medical transports
  • Perform patient assessments, triage, treatment, and continuous monitoring
  • Complete accurate electronic patient care documentation
  • Operate within state EMS regulations and established clinical guidelines
  • Maintain required certifications, continuing education, and clinical competencies
  • Inspect, clean, stock, and maintain onboard medical equipment and supplies
  • Report equipment issues and coordinate repairs when necessary
  • Participate in flight briefings, debriefings, and pre-flight safety procedures
  • Assist pilots with communication, navigation support, and visual observation when requested
  • Conduct patient and crew safety briefings before transport
  • Provide specialized support during neonatal, pediatric, and other critical care transports
  • Participate in outreach programs, clinical education, research, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Represent the organization with professionalism while collaborating with hospitals, EMS agencies, and healthcare partners

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field preferred
  • Minimum three years of recent experience in a high-volume 911 EMS system
  • Previous critical care or flight transport experience preferred
  • Current state Paramedic (EMT-P) license
  • National Registry certification if required by state regulations
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and ITLS or PHTLS certifications
  • NRP certification and approved advanced trauma certification
  • FP-C or CCP-C certification required within two years of hire
  • FEMA NIMS IS-100, 200, 700, 800 and HazMat training
  • Ability to meet flight crew physical requirements, including weight limitations and operational standards
