Paramedic – Emergency Medical Services

Job Summary

The Paramedic is responsible for providing advanced emergency medical treatment and safe transportation for critically ill and injured patients within the EMS system. This role requires strong clinical judgment, leadership in patient care situations, and the ability to work effectively with emergency response teams to deliver high-quality medical services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced life support care to patients during emergency responses and medical transports.
  • Lead patient care activities at emergency scenes and assign tasks to other team members as appropriate.
  • Assess patient conditions, perform necessary treatments, and ensure safe transfer of care to receiving facilities.
  • Operate emergency vehicles safely while following all traffic laws, company policies, and emergency vehicle procedures.
  • Complete accurate patient care reports (PCRs) and maintain all required medical documentation.
  • Inspect, maintain, and restock medical equipment, supplies, and vehicle inventory to ensure readiness.
  • Assist with station and ambulance maintenance, including cleaning and general operational duties.
  • Promote teamwork, professionalism, and a positive patient experience.
  • Follow safety standards and support continuous improvement in patient care quality.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current Alabama Paramedic certification and required driver credentials.
  • Additional degree or healthcare education preferred.
  • Must be at least 19 years of age.
  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving history.
  • Previous EMS experience preferred.

Required Skills & Certifications

  • Ability to meet the physical demands of emergency medical response duties.
  • Successful completion of the annual Medical Physical Agility Test (MedPAT).
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) certification required before employment and maintained throughout employment.
  • Required training certifications include:
    • ACLS
    • ITLS
    • PALS
    • CPR
    • ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800
