Position Overview

SLA is hiring Full-Time Paramedics to serve communities across San Luis Obispo County. This role offers competitive wages and comprehensive benefits, effective the first of the month following 30 days of employment.

Paramedics are responsible for delivering advanced life support (ALS) care, making critical treatment decisions, and ensuring safe, efficient patient transport.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate emergency and non-emergency calls to determine appropriate treatment plans

  • Deliver advanced life support using cardiac monitors, defibrillators, airway equipment, IV therapy, medications, oxygen, and other ALS interventions

  • Perform patient triage using approved county protocols (START system)

  • Coordinate with base hospitals and receiving facilities for medical direction

  • Safely lift, move, and transport patients

  • Provide compassionate, clear communication with patients and families

  • Lead on-scene operations when required

  • Operate ambulances safely and assist with navigation to reduce response times

  • Maintain accurate and complete electronic patient care documentation

  • Ensure ambulance readiness and uphold professional standards

  • Participate in training, continuing education, and community outreach efforts

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 21 years of age

  • Current California Paramedic license

  • Valid CPR certification

  • Advanced Protocol Review (APR) certification

  • California Ambulance Driver’s License (ADL)

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Clean driving record meeting company insurability standards

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
