Position Overview
The EMT Instructor works under the guidance of the Lead Instructor or Program Director and is responsible for delivering high-quality classroom and skills-based instruction to Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) students. This role focuses on hands-on training, student mentorship, and ensuring compliance with academic and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities

Deliver classroom and laboratory instruction in core EMT subjects, including patient evaluation, trauma response, airway management, medical emergencies, and Basic Life Support (BLS).

Facilitate immersive, scenario-driven learning experiences such as simulations, skills labs, and practical field exercises covering CPR, patient assessment, treatment, and transport.

Demonstrate proper use of EMS equipment (e.g., AEDs, oxygen delivery systems, immobilization devices) and model safe, effective emergency response techniques.

Supervise student practice sessions, offering coaching and corrective guidance to ensure competency.

Develop and administer written tests and hands-on skills evaluations to measure comprehension and practical ability.

Provide detailed, constructive feedback to support student growth and document academic progress, attendance, and skill completion.

Maintain accurate and organized records of grades, certifications, and course milestones.

Enforce safety standards during all instructional activities and ensure proper handling of training tools, manikins, and personal protective equipment.

Promote professionalism, ethical conduct, and career readiness within the EMS field.

Foster a supportive and inclusive learning atmosphere that encourages participation and open communication.

Assist students facing academic or personal challenges by directing them to appropriate resources.

Collaborate with program leadership to ensure curriculum alignment and regulatory compliance, including standards set by accrediting agencies such as the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).

Contribute to lesson planning, curriculum development, and continuous program improvement initiatives.

Stay current with evolving EMS protocols, medical advancements, and instructional best practices.

Participate in ongoing professional development and maintain required certifications (e.g., BLS, ACLS).

Work cooperatively with fellow instructors to ensure consistency in teaching methods and evaluation standards.

Build partnerships with local EMS agencies, fire departments, and healthcare facilities to enhance experiential learning opportunities.

Communicate course expectations, schedules, and examination timelines clearly to students.

Encourage lifelong learning and advancement within emergency medical services.
Qualifications
-
Current EMT or higher-level EMS certification in the State of Arizona.

Minimum of two (2) years of active field experience.

At least 24 hours of formal training in instructional methodology, including:

Course planning and preparation for classroom, clinical, and field instruction

Development and administration of written and practical examinations

Effective use of instructional equipment and materials

Student performance assessment techniques

Delivery of constructive performance feedback
