Primary Function

Under the direction of the Director of Operations and Operations management/supervisory staff, the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) provides rescue services and both emergency and non‑emergency medical care to the sick and injured, in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Lynch EMS policies.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide dignified, compassionate basic life support (BLS) at the scene, en route to the hospital, and in other prehospital settings, in line with federal, state, and local regulations and standards.
  • Treat all patients, vendors, and staff in a manner consistent with Lynch EMS core values.
  • Support and uphold the Lynch EMS Mission Statement, focusing on excellent patient care, customer service, professionalism, and ethical business practices.
  • Understand, follow, and be able to locate Lynch EMS’s:
    • Code of Conduct
    • Corporate Compliance procedures
    • Policies and Procedures
  • Respond calmly, efficiently, and promptly to both emergency and non‑emergency calls.
  • Demonstrate effective teamwork with all employees.
  • Perform routine station and vehicle tasks, including checking, restocking, inventorying, and cleaning all Lynch EMS vehicles and equipment.
  • Provide ambulance stand‑by services at sporting events and other activities as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all required certifications and licenses.
  • Complete written reports for incidents, unusual events, and patient encounters.
  • Demonstrate consistent punctuality and reliable attendance.
  • Complete assigned duties within the required time frames.
  • Create and maintain a safe work environment; keep work areas organized and free from contaminants.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and professional appearance.
  • Complete and submit all paperwork and electronic patient care records accurately and thoroughly.
  • Be available for recall to duty in the event of disasters, mass casualty incidents (MCI), or other situations that strain available resources.
  • Recognize problems and either address them appropriately or promptly notify a supervisor.
  • Safely negotiate hazardous scenes in all environmental conditions (light/dark, hot/cold, wet/dry/frozen, etc.).
  • Perform all other tasks as assigned by supervisory or management staff.
  • Interact effectively with individuals, families, groups, public safety personnel, and other healthcare providers from diverse social, emotional, cultural, and intellectual backgrounds, consistent with Lynch EMS’s core values and mission.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current California Driver’s License.
  • California EMT certification (or eligibility, with sponsored training available for qualified applicants).
  • Current CPR certification that meets local EMS agency requirements.
  • Ability to obtain a CA DMV Ambulance Driver Certificate within 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to obtain an OCEMS EMT Ambulance Driver/Attendant License within 30 days of employment.
  • Current Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MCSA 5876).
  • DMV driving record that meets company insurance requirements.

Physical Requirements

Unimpaired Mobility

  • Respond quickly to ambulance calls.
  • Access patients in difficult terrain and hazardous environments.
  • Climb stairs and structures as needed.
  • Work in tight, dangerous spaces (e.g., damaged vehicles, structures involved in fire).
  • Lift and carry heavy equipment and patients.

Physical Abilities

  • Perform strenuous physical tasks, including lifting and moving patients and equipment in various environmental and hazardous conditions.
  • Perform CPR and other life‑saving maneuvers.

Fine Motor Skills

  • Perform required medical procedures such as bandaging, splinting, establishing IVs, endotracheal intubation and other advanced airway techniques, manual defibrillation, and pleural decompression.

Vision

  • Have correctable vision sufficient to:
    • Safely operate emergency vehicles
    • Read gauges, fine print, and numerical data related to patient care
    • Distinguish colors when needed for emergency care

Hearing

  • Hear and understand information from patients, families, bystanders, medical professionals, and other emergency personnel in noisy and distracting environments.

Speech

  • Speak clearly and be easily understood in loud and stressful conditions.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, medical professionals, and other emergency personnel in high‑stress and distracting situations.
