About the PRN EMT/Paramedic Position

As a PRN EMT/Paramedic, you will provide high-quality emergency medical and occupational health care to employees at an onsite clinic. You will evaluate illnesses and injuries, provide first aid, perform clinical procedures, support workplace wellness programs, and coordinate additional medical treatment when required.

The ideal candidate has strong 911 emergency response experience, excellent clinical judgment, and the ability to make quick decisions in a fast-paced work environment.

EMT/Paramedic Job Responsibilities

  • Evaluate employees experiencing workplace injuries, illnesses, or medical emergencies.
  • Perform patient assessments and triage to determine appropriate treatment and next steps.
  • Provide emergency medical care and first aid within your professional scope of practice.
  • Take and record patient vital signs and prepare employees for medical examinations.
  • Perform approved clinical procedures, including vaccinations, injections, phlebotomy, pulmonary function testing, audiometric testing, and respirator fit testing.
  • Conduct DOT and non-DOT drug and alcohol testing after completing required training.
  • Perform rapid diagnostic screening tests such as glucose, influenza, strep, and mono testing.
  • Provide first-aid treatment, including wound care, splinting, oxygen therapy, and other approved emergency interventions.
  • Administer medications and durable medical equipment as ordered by the treating clinician and permitted by state regulations.
  • Assist with workplace injury case management and employee follow-up care.
  • Communicate with emergency departments and other healthcare professionals when additional treatment or patient transfer is required.
  • Maintain accurate patient records while protecting confidential health information and following HIPAA requirements.
  • Inspect, clean, operate, and maintain medical equipment and supplies.
  • Perform equipment quality-control checks, calibration, and required documentation.
  • Monitor clinic supplies and notify management of equipment problems or supply shortages.
  • Keep employees informed about treatment procedures and expected wait times.
  • Participate in workplace safety meetings, health initiatives, clinical training, and wellness programs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional onsite medical clinic.
  • Follow company policies, medical protocols, OSHA requirements, safety procedures, and applicable state and federal regulations.

EMT/Paramedic Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Degree requirements must be satisfied through an accredited college or university when applicable.
  • Relevant professional experience may substitute for certain educational requirements where permitted.

Required Certifications

Candidates for this PRN EMT/Paramedic position should have:

  • Current National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) or Advanced EMT certification.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • All licenses and credentials required to practice in the state of employment.
  • Continuing education necessary to maintain professional certification and licensure.

Preferred Certifications

Additional qualifications that may strengthen your application include:

  • DOT drug testing certification.
  • Breath alcohol testing certification.
  • Hair and oral-fluid specimen collection certification.
  • OSHA safety training or workplace safety experience.
  • CPR or American Red Cross instructor certification.

Required EMT/Paramedic Experience

Applicants should have approximately 3 years of relevant emergency medical experience, with 911 emergency medical response experience required.

Experience as a firefighter is a plus. Previous experience in occupational health, urgent care, industrial healthcare, workplace medicine, emergency medical services, or onsite employee health is also beneficial.
