Job Description

Hamlin Fire and Rescue Company is seeking Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) to provide professional pre-hospital care and safe transport for patients who are ill or injured. This role includes operating, maintaining, and ensuring readiness of emergency medical vehicles. Care is delivered following established medical protocols, state regulations, and under the direction of the EMS Supervisor. Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) candidates are also welcome to apply.

Shifts & Hours:

  • Weekend coverage, 12-hour shifts, and select weekday hours available

  • Full-time: 36 hours/week with full medical benefits

  • Part-time: Flexible schedule


Required Licenses & Certifications

  • National Registry EMT certification

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS / CPR) for Healthcare Providers (or equivalent)

  • Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license with acceptable driving record

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Solid clinical judgment and decision-making ability

  • Basic mathematical skills for patient care and documentation


Primary Responsibilities

  • Report to EMS Supervisor and follow all operational directives

  • Assess patient condition and determine appropriate care in alignment with state/local protocols

  • Deliver basic or advanced life support at emergency scenes and during transport

  • Monitor vital signs and provide initial treatment, including assisting with extrication when necessary

  • Operate emergency vehicles safely, transporting patients to treatment facilities while observing traffic and safety laws

  • Record and communicate patient status, interventions, and outcomes to medical staff

  • Utilize Automated External Defibrillators (AED) and other medical equipment as needed

  • Maintain ambulances, station, garage, and medical equipment in clean, operational condition

  • Document all patient care accurately and submit reports at the end of each shift

  • Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities and department meetings

  • Engage in community outreach and educational programs as assigned

  • Stay current with professional standards, industry updates, and attend relevant training and seminars

  • Demonstrate professional conduct, maintain confidentiality, and promote positive relationships with hospitals and partner agencies

  • Accept additional duties as assigned by supervisors


Physical Requirements

  • Perform very heavy work: lift/move over 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs constantly

  • Prolonged standing, walking, and sitting during shifts

  • Ability to distinguish colors as required for patient assessment and equipment usage


Additional Requirements

  • Annual job-specific skills competency assessment

  • Annual continuing education

  • Influenza vaccine required; Hepatitis B vaccine recommended
