Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) β Correctional Facility
Position Overview
The EMT provides emergency care, clinical support, and medication management within a correctional facility. Working under nursing supervision and physician standing orders, the EMT operates within the supplemental EMS scope authorized by New Mexico law and facility policies.
Key Responsibilities

Respond to medical emergencies, stabilizing patients until advanced care is available.

Conduct intake medical screenings to identify urgent needs and ensure medication continuity.

Administer routine, pre-packaged medications to stable patients according to eMAR and physician orders.

Monitor chronic health conditions by performing blood pressure checks, blood glucose tests, and pulse oximetry.

Deliver physician-approved nebulizer treatments and metered-dose inhalers (MDIs).

Support nursing staff during sick calls, medication rounds, and daily clinical tasks.

Assist with off-site patient transfers, ensuring safety and monitoring during transport.

Accurately document all patient care and medication administration in the Patient Health Record.

Adhere to infection control, safety protocols, and facility documentation standards.
Qualifications

Active EMT-Basic or EMT-Intermediate certification in New Mexico.

Current CPR/BLS certification.

Experience in emergency medical services or correctional healthcare is preferred.
