Position: EMT – Patient Transport
Location: Baton Rouge, LA
Shift: 12-hour shifts

Join our team at Baton Rouge General for a unique opportunity to work as an EMT focused on patient transport between our facilities. This position offers a structured 12-hour shift schedule designed to improve work-life balance while maintaining high standards of patient care and operational efficiency.


Job Purpose & Mission

The EMT provides basic life support and first aid care to patients in pre-hospital settings and during transport between hospital campuses. Care is administered according to all applicable laws, regulations, and hospital policies, with duties adapted appropriately for the age and needs of the patient population.


Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Provide first aid and basic life support to patients in pre-hospital and transport settings.
  • Evaluate injuries or illness to determine appropriate medical interventions.
  • Respond calmly and efficiently to emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Support paramedics by maintaining airways, ventilating patients, and assisting with CPR, AED, oxygen administration, and trauma care including splints and spinal immobilization.
  • Complete all required documentation including patient care and insurance forms accurately and promptly.

Vehicle Operation & Maintenance

  • Operate emergency vehicles safely and in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Inspect vehicles for mechanical readiness, ensuring they are stocked, cleaned, and maintained each shift.
  • Monitor and maintain communication equipment to respond to dispatch instructions effectively.
  • Follow proper stretcher handling and lifting procedures; decontaminate and restock vehicles as needed.

Additional Duties

  • Assist in the Emergency Department as an Emergency Room Technician when required.
  • Represent Baton Rouge General at public events as needed.
  • Perform other tasks to support the smooth operation of the Ambulance Transport Service.

Requirements

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year as an EMT

Education:

  • Preferred: High School Diploma or GED

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Nationally Certified EMT
  • Louisiana State EMT License
  • Valid LA Class D Chauffeur’s License
  • BLS Certification
  • Crisis Prevention Training (within six months of hire)
  • Clean driving record

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Louisiana traffic laws and safe driving practices
  • Ability to follow instructions and transport patients safely
  • Dependable, motivated, and capable of working independently
  • Understanding of stretcher operations and patient safety procedures

HIPAA & Safety

HIPAA Compliance: Maintain confidentiality and security of all patient records and related information, including electronic, paper, and verbal data.

Safety Standards: Follow all hospital safety procedures, including PPE usage, incident reporting, infection control, and safe handling of patients and equipment.
