EMT-B Training (Rookie School)

Memphis? No β Metro Emergency Medical Services (MEMS) offers an opportunity to begin your EMS career through its paid, full-time EMT-B Rookie School in downtown Little Rock, Arkansas.
The program combines college-level classroom instruction with hands-on EMT training. Selected candidates are hired as full-time employees and receive hourly pay throughout the training program.
Next program begins January 11, 2027.
Program Details
- Position: EMT-B Rookie School Trainee
- Employment: Full Time
- Training: 9-week, full-time, in-house EMT program
- Training Pay: $12.50 per hour
- Newly Licensed EMT Pay: $17.25 per hour
- Location: MEMS Headquarters, Downtown Little Rock, Arkansas
- Benefits: Full benefits begin March 1
- Commitment: 18 months of full-time employment beginning on the first day of class
What the Program Includes
Selected candidates will:
- Complete nine weeks of full-time EMT training at MEMS.
- Receive paid employment while attending the program.
- Complete classroom and hands-on instruction.
- Obtain an Arkansas state EMT license and National Registry certification after successfully completing the required training.
- Continue into EMT field training after becoming licensed.
- Complete field training before being assigned to a crew partner and regular shift.
- Receive full-time EMT employment at $17.25 per hour after licensing and successful completion of field training.
Participants are required to sign a Tuition Reimbursement Agreement committing to 18 months of full-time employment with MEMS beginning on the first day of class.
Requirements
Applicants must:
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Hold a current and valid Arkansas driver’s license.
- Have at least two years of acceptable driving history.
- Be at least 19 years old when the class begins.
- Be physically capable of performing the duties of an EMT and pass a physical examination.
- Achieve acceptable results on a recent college placement examination.
- Pass the required pre-employment drug screening.
- Successfully complete a criminal background check.
Candidates may take the Accuplacer entrance exam at MEMS at no cost.
Employment Requirements
MEMS is a safety-sensitive workplace. Pre-employment drug testing is required, and employees in safety-sensitive positions may be subject to random drug screening. MEMS maintains a drug-, alcohol-, and tobacco-free workplace.
