Job Description – Life Safety Officer (LSO)
Overview:
The Life Safety Officer (LSO) ensures the safety and well-being of guests, team members, property, and company assets by addressing hazards and responding to emergencies. LSOs serve as first responders, maintaining security, order, and customer satisfaction throughout the property.
Responsibilities:
- Greet guests and team members professionally and provide accurate information about property amenities.
- Patrol property consistently to protect guests and staff while enforcing policies, laws, and procedures.
- Respond calmly to crises, emergencies, and medical incidents, exercising sound judgment.
- Administer emergency medical care, including First Aid, CPR, and AED use, according to established protocols.
- Physically restrain individuals when necessary and follow approved “Use of Force” procedures.
- Document incidents thoroughly, including witness statements, photographic evidence, and detailed reports.
- Assist law enforcement and civil authorities as required, including providing court testimony.
- Conduct security checks, including slot, pit poker, and other gaming areas, in compliance with Nevada Gaming law.
- Ensure readiness of emergency equipment, AEDs, trauma kits, and oxygen supplies.
- Participate in departmental training programs, defensive tactics, and emergency response exercises.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 1–2 years of security experience preferred; prior guest-facing experience highly desired.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and computer proficiency.
- Must be able to work any shift, including weekends and holidays.
- Hold a Nevada Gaming Card, Alcohol Awareness Card (AES), and valid Nevada Driver’s License.
- Maintain current BASIC EMT certification with Southern Nevada Health District EMS and National Registry of EMTs.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs, push/pull up to 150 lbs, restrain individuals over 200 lbs, and maneuver quickly in various environments.
- Tolerance for extreme temperatures, high noise levels, smoke, and bright lighting.
- Must pass Las Vegas Regional Security Academy testing, including defensive tactics, legal knowledge, use of force, handcuffing, verbal de-escalation, CPR/AED, and emergency response.
Physical & Environmental Requirements:
- Stand, walk, bend, crouch, stoop, twist, and climb stairs as required.
- Work indoors and outdoors under varying conditions, including heat above 115°F and cold as low as 10°F.
- Perform independently in high-pressure situations while maintaining professionalism and situational awareness.
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced, high-traffic hospitality and gaming environment.
- Interactions with guests, team members, and law enforcement.
- Exposure to emergencies, medical incidents, and physical confrontations.
