HealthTeam Critical Care Transport, LLC is a nonprofit, shared-service organization supported by Cabell Huntington Hospital/Marshall Health Network, Charleston Area Medical Center/Vandalia Health, and WVU Medicine. Its mission is to provide safe, dependable, and high-quality patient transport services across the region.
As the only nationally accredited ambulance service in West Virginia, HealthTeam sets the benchmark for interfacility patient transfers and critical care transport. The organization operates a fleet of 42 ambulances across eight strategically located bases throughout the state.

Position Title: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
Reporting To:
Ground Team Leader
Collaboration With:
HealthNet Aeromedical Services leadership, HealthTeam Chief Medical Officer, Director of Ground Operations, and Ground Operations Management
Position Summary
The Emergency Medical Technician is responsible for delivering emergency medical care to patients in accordance with applicable laws, clinical protocols, and organizational policies. This role focuses on providing safe, effective care during transport for both emergency and non-emergency patients.
Work Environment
This position involves ground ambulance transport in challenging and often high-stress conditions. EMTs may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, bodily fluids, loud environments, and mechanical hazards. Appropriate safety equipment and training are provided, and employees are expected to follow all safety procedures and utilize protective measures consistently.
Education & Experience Requirements
Minimum Education:
- Completion of an approved EMT training program
Preferred Experience:
- One year of EMT experience in a pre-hospital setting (preferred but not required)
Required Credentials
- Active, unrestricted EMT certification in the state of West Virginia
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as defined by company standards
- Completion of NIMS training (IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800) and Hazardous Materials awareness
Post-Hire Requirement:
- Successful completion of the HealthTeam onboarding and orientation program
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, move, and transfer patients of varying weights with limited assistance
- Capability to perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, climbing, reaching, and crouching for extended periods
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing and potentially hazardous environments
- Adequate sensory abilities including vision, hearing, and smell to safely perform duties
- Successful completion of required physical examinations and agility testing prior to and during employment
Ongoing Requirements
- Participation in safety and operational evaluations
- Annual motor vehicle record review and possible random checks
- Drug and alcohol screening as required
- Annual clinical competency assessments
Core Responsibilities
- Participate in pre-shift briefings and post-mission debriefings
- Identify and respond promptly to safety risks and operational hazards
- Operate emergency vehicles safely in compliance with all applicable regulations
- Ensure ambulances and equipment are fully stocked, clean, and operational at all times
- Maintain accurate documentation of transport activities, equipment usage, and patient care data
- Communicate effectively via radio and dispatch systems for emergency and non-emergency responses
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure continuity and quality of care
- Comply with all regulatory, clinical, and organizational standards
- Maintain current certifications, licenses, and continuing education requirements
- Support additional operational needs as assigned by leadership, including working flexible shifts or locations
Performance Review
Employee performance is evaluated annually based on established role expectations and job classification standards.
