Position Overview: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Per Diem

We are seeking a dedicated Per Diem EMT to support emergency medical response operations within the NYC 911 system. In this role, you will provide immediate pre-hospital care to patients in urgent or critical condition and ensure safe and efficient transport to appropriate medical facilities.

You will be responsible for conducting patient evaluations, delivering basic life support interventions, and accurately documenting all care provided during each response. This includes completing detailed electronic patient care reports in accordance with departmental and regulatory standards.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Arrive on duty punctually, properly uniformed, and equipped according to policy

  • Deliver patient care in compliance with New York State Department of Health and regional EMS protocols

  • Assess patient conditions and provide appropriate treatment within EMT scope of practice

  • Safely transport patients and communicate relevant medical information during handoff to hospital staff

  • Complete accurate and timely electronic documentation for all patient encounters

  • Maintain cleanliness, readiness, and operational safety of ambulances and medical equipment

  • Perform daily vehicle inspections and restock supplies as needed

  • Operate communication systems effectively, including CAD, radio, and mobile data terminals

  • Follow all EMS system guidelines, including dispatch procedures and reporting protocols

  • Collaborate with partners, hospital personnel, and emergency responders to ensure quality patient care

  • Participate in training sessions, quality improvement programs, and departmental meetings

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

  • Completion of a New York State-approved EMT certification program

  • Active NYS EMT certification

  • Valid driver’s license

  • At least 6 months of ambulance or EMS experience preferred

  • Required certifications may include EVOC, HazMat Awareness, and WMD training

  • Ability to communicate effectively in a fast-paced emergency environment
