Position Overview

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) provides on-site medical support within a correctional environment, ensuring the health and safety of the inmate population. This role involves performing intake health evaluations, addressing routine medical needs, and delivering urgent care when emergencies arise. The EMT must be capable of working in a secure setting while maintaining a high standard of patient care.


Primary Duties

  • Respond to medical emergencies and deliver basic life support, including CPR and use of emergency equipment
  • Conduct initial medical screenings for incoming inmates and document findings accurately
  • Monitor ongoing health conditions and provide treatments or medications as directed by medical staff
  • Maintain cleanliness, functionality, and readiness of all medical equipment and supplies
  • Assist healthcare providers during examinations and minor procedures
  • Adhere to all privacy laws and HIPAA requirements when handling patient information
  • Follow established emergency protocols within the facility
  • Communicate effectively with team members, correctional staff, and patients
  • Remain flexible to support operational needs, including overtime when required

Requirements

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of an approved EMT or Paramedic training program

Experience:

  • Experience in a correctional or secure facility setting is a plus

Licensing/Certification:

  • Active and unrestricted EMT or Paramedic certification in the applicable state
