Hiring Timeline

The Roswell Fire Department plans to hire through two academy groups in 2026 — one scheduled for mid-year and another later in the year.

Applicants selected under this posting may be placed in either class depending on department staffing needs and final candidate rankings. Unless an applicant withdraws, they will remain eligible for consideration in both hiring cycles.


Position Overview

The City of Roswell Fire Department is actively recruiting certified Firefighter/EMTs and Firefighter/Paramedics who are driven, dependable, and ready to serve in a collaborative and forward-thinking public safety agency.

This role involves responding to fires, medical emergencies, rescue situations, hazardous materials incidents, and large-scale disasters. Personnel are expected to operate effectively in high-pressure environments while delivering fire suppression, rescue services, and emergency medical care. Assignments are carried out under the direction of a Company Officer, Battalion Chief, or Incident Commander.

Successful candidates demonstrate professionalism, physical endurance, strong decision-making skills, and the ability to function as part of a disciplined emergency response team.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Respond to fire alarms, vehicle collisions, EMS calls, hazardous materials events, and disaster responses

  • Conduct fire attack, ventilation, overhaul, and search-and-rescue operations

  • Deliver emergency medical treatment consistent with Georgia EMT or Paramedic licensure

  • Safely operate fire apparatus and emergency response equipment

  • Perform duties while wearing full protective gear and SCBA in hazardous conditions

  • Maintain readiness of vehicles, tools, and station facilities

  • Prepare and complete required incident documentation, including fire and EMS reports

  • Participate in ongoing training and maintain all required certifications


Minimum Requirements

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED

Required Certifications

  • Georgia Firefighter Certification or NPQ Firefighter I & II

  • Georgia EMT certification (Paramedic preferred)

  • BLS for Healthcare Providers

  • ACLS (required for Paramedics)

  • ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 (within six months of hire)

Additional Qualifications

  • Must meet Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council criteria

  • Valid Georgia driver’s license (or ability to obtain within three months)

  • Successful completion of:

    • Physical Ability Test (PAT)

    • NFPA 1582 medical evaluation

    • Drug screening

    • Comprehensive background check


Schedule

Firefighters work a 48-hour on / 96-hour off rotation, totaling approximately 2,912 hours annually.

Personnel are classified as emergency responders and may be recalled during declared or undeclared emergencies, including events requiring extended or irregular hours.


Compensation

Pay is determined by certification level (EMT or Paramedic) in accordance with the City of Roswell’s Certified Firefighter Pay Plan.

Holiday compensation and applicable FLSA overtime are provided per municipal policy.
