Overview
The City of Grants Fire & Rescue Department is currently looking for committed and motivated individuals to fill the position of Firefighter I–II / EMT-B, AEMT, or Paramedic. Personnel in this role respond to both emergency and non-emergency incidents, including fire suppression, medical emergencies, rescue situations, and other public safety needs within the community.
Candidates must hold, or be able to obtain, the appropriate State of New Mexico EMS certification. Preference may be given to applicants who already possess AEMT or Paramedic credentials. Successful applicants should demonstrate professionalism, the ability to work effectively as part of a team, and a strong dedication to public service.

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma, GED, or an equivalent qualification.

Prior firefighting experience is not required; however, applicants must hold EMT-B, AEMT, or Paramedic certification through the National Registry or NMEMS, or be eligible to obtain it.

Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Ability to complete and successfully pass the probationary training period, including all required in-house training (unless on approved leave) and Introduction to Firefighter Training I–II within the first year of employment.

Must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid New Mexico driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving history.

Ability to obtain a New Mexico Driver’s License Class E or higher.

Must pass a pre-employment drug screening, comprehensive background investigation, and physical fitness evaluation.

Additional certifications or qualifications may be required at the discretion of the Fire Chief to comply with operational or regulatory requirements.
