Job Description

PeaceHealth is hiring a full-time Emergency Department Technician (0.90 FTE, Nights) to support patient care in a fast-paced emergency setting. Compensation ranges from $22.99 to $34.50 per hour, depending on qualifications, experience, and applicable union agreements. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and may have multiple openings.

Position Overview

The Emergency Department Technician provides hands-on patient support within their certification scope, working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician. This role plays a key part in ensuring efficient, compassionate, and safe care delivery in the Emergency Department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient intake from triage or ambulance arrivals
  • Support ambulatory patients and prepare rooms for procedures
  • Obtain and document vital signs
  • Apply sterile dressings, splints, casts, and assist with immobilization
  • Participate in restraint procedures and patient monitoring when required
  • Transport patients within the facility
  • Observe patient conditions and promptly report significant changes
  • Maintain stocked and organized treatment areas
  • Ensure cleanliness of equipment and patient care spaces
  • Perform clerical tasks including order entry and retrieving results
  • Provide general support to enhance department workflow

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Acute Care CNA program
  • Active Washington State CNA certification OR EMT experience with Nursing Assistant Registered credential at hire
  • Minimum one year of experience as a CNA, Medical Assistant, or EMT
  • Knowledge of age-specific care principles across the lifespan
  • Preferred: Acute care hospital experience and prior leadership experience

Required Skills

  • Completion of Emergency Department competency training
  • Strong communication and customer service abilities
  • Critical thinking and multitasking skills
  • Basic math, documentation, and clerical competency
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office applications

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, and patient movement
  • Safe handling of patients (35 lbs. max without assistive devices per NIOSH guidelines)
  • Regular lifting, pushing, and pulling within defined limits
  • Exposure to hospital environments including biohazards and chemicals
  • Normal vision and hearing (corrective devices permitted)
