Overview:
Saratoga Race Course is seeking a part-time Fire Marshal / EMT to join our Emergency Response team. Reporting to NYRA management, this role ensures compliance with fire safety regulations and New York State Building Codes while delivering rapid emergency medical care. The ideal candidate responds to fire incidents, medical emergencies, and other urgent situations, using sound judgment to protect lives, property, and guests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and inspect facilities to remove hazards, maintain clear evacuation routes, and enforce fire safety standards.

  • Implement Emergency Incident Action Plans and coordinate evacuation procedures.

  • Respond to fire alarms, accidents, medical emergencies, and other urgent situations, providing appropriate intervention.

  • Assess patient conditions, administer basic life support, and stabilize individuals for advanced care.

  • Assist patrons and staff during emergency evacuations.

  • Enforce NYRA Fire Safety rules among employees, vendors, and guests, documenting incidents and issuing violations as needed.

  • Support NYRA management with related tasks and safety initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Minimum of 3 years as a professional firefighter or 5 years as an active volunteer firefighter.

  • Valid NYS Driver License.

  • Certified Basic EMT in New York with at least 2 years of EMS experience (paid or volunteer).

  • Current CPR certification.

  • Completion of ICS courses 100, 700, and 800.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a NY State Gaming Commission license.

  • EMS references required.

  • Experience with large crowds and effective crowd management.

  • Familiarity with pre-hospital and event medical procedures, including basic medical terminology.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for long periods, walk extensively, and navigate stairs in crowded venues.

  • Comfortable working around horses and in high-pressure emergency settings.

  • Must be able to work all weekends during the summer racing season.
