Position: Paramedic / Advanced EMT – PRN

  • Schedule: 24-hour shifts, various days and times

The Paramedic/Advanced EMT responds to ambulance calls, providing medical assessment, treatment, and safe transport for patients in accordance with established protocols and state regulations.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Completion of an accredited Paramedic or EMT program

  • Licensed as a Paramedic through the Georgia Division of Public Health or licensed as a Georgia EMT

  • Valid Georgia driver’s license meeting insurability requirements

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire

  • Post-licensure training in Advanced Transport Ventilators and Blood Product Administration

Professional Requirements:

  • Adhere to hospital dress code; maintain a neat and professional appearance

  • Complete annual education and training requirements

  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times

  • Report to work promptly and as scheduled

  • Wear identification while on duty

  • Follow all applicable state, federal, and local regulations

  • Represent the hospital in a professional and positive manner

  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives and continuous quality improvement activities

  • Attend staff meetings and in-service sessions as required


Physical Requirements

  • May be required to sit or stand for extended periods

  • Ability to lift and maneuver stretchers and patients, frequently lifting up to 100 lbs and assisting with heavier loads

  • Climbing, balancing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and other movements necessary for patient care (including CPR)

  • Must maintain balance on uneven surfaces

  • Depth perception and clear vision required for driving

  • Effective verbal communication and hearing sufficient to interact with staff and patients

  • Work in high-stress, physically demanding environments, including exposure to various weather and environmental conditions


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Answer emergency calls and obtain key information including patient location, nature of the emergency, and contact information

  • Dispatch appropriate EMS units based on EMS Manager guidelines

  • Provide medical care at the scene and during transport for patients with:

    • Trauma

    • Cardiac emergencies

    • Burns

    • OB/GYN emergencies

    • Medical illnesses and injuries

  • Triage patients according to severity and condition

  • Communicate patient status to receiving facilities, including vital signs, medical history, treatments provided, and estimated time of arrival

  • Maintain accurate records of ambulance calls, mileage, and care provided

  • Complete GEMSIS Digital Patient Care Reports for each call

  • Check, maintain, and restock all equipment and supplies at the beginning and end of each shift

  • Ensure ambulance units are operational and ready for the next call

  • Perform procedures and monitor patients in accordance with Georgia Office of EMS and Trauma Scope of Practice SOP-2021

  • Execute other duties as assigned or required by the role
