Position: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
Time Status: Full-Time
Shift: Must be available to work three 12-hour shifts per week, including some weekends and holidays.

Education Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience Required: No prior experience required; one year of related experience preferred.
License/Certification: Valid EMT license and Driver’s License

Job Summary:
The EMT at UK HealthCare (UKHC) plays a critical role in delivering timely, professional, and compassionate medical care to patients in emergency situations. This role involves assessing patient conditions, providing essential medical treatment and life support, and safely transporting patients to healthcare facilities. The EMT operates in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with medical personnel to ensure the highest standard of patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond promptly to emergency medical calls and incidents.
  • Assess patient conditions and provide appropriate medical interventions.
  • Administer basic life support and first aid as required.
  • Safely transport patients to healthcare facilities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and incidents.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and medical staff.
  • Uphold safety protocols and infection control standards.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and patient care procedures.
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in high-stress situations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged sitting at a computer workstation.
  • Repetitive motions such as typing.
  • Lifting, pushing, or pulling objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Standing or walking with objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Working at heights above four feet and in confined spaces.
  • Exposure to loud noises, temperature extremes, blood-borne/airborne pathogens, hazardous chemicals, and potentially combative individuals.
  • Occasional travel (<10%) may be required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of related experience in patient assessment, emergency care, or EMS services.
