Volunteer EMS Opportunity – Eureka & Crescent Valley

Stipend per Call:

  • Driver: $75/run

  • EMT-Basic: $100/run

  • EMT-Advanced: $150/run

Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Eureka County EMS Coordinator and direct oversight of a Volunteer EMT, volunteers safely operate the ambulance and assist with professional emergency services for the Eureka County Volunteer EMS Program. Volunteers respond to both medical and non-medical emergencies, provide on-site support at public events, and participate in regular training sessions. This role does not include providing medical care independently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond promptly to emergency and non-emergency calls.

  • Operate the ambulance safely in all conditions.

  • Assist Volunteer EMTs with patient care following State and Service Protocols, including rescue, lifting, transferring, loading/unloading, and patient transport.

  • Maintain clear communication with Dispatch, Medical Control Hospitals, other first responders, and hospital staff via radio, phone, or in person.

  • After calls, inspect, refuel, restock, and clean the ambulance and equipment.

  • Immediately report to the Coordinator issues such as: ambulance downtime, equipment malfunctions, insufficient volunteers, staff injuries, or accidents involving County resources.

  • Attend training sessions to maintain skills, certifications, and licenses.

  • Uphold all Nevada Revised Statutes and Administrative Codes applicable to EMS.

  • Foster a welcoming, professional, and respectful environment for volunteers, staff, and the public.

  • Refrain from any behavior that undermines the integrity, credibility, or public trust of Eureka County or its EMS program.

  • Recruit new volunteers and support retention of current members.

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized physical environment. Report and correct potential hazards promptly.

  • Ensure supplies are organized and maintained; order supplies as directed by the EMS Coordinator.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education: Completion of driver’s training or equivalent.

  • Training: Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVO) certification or proof of successful completion.

  • Licenses & Certifications:

    • Active Nevada Driver’s License

    • Nevada Ambulance Attendant License

    • Must maintain all required certifications in active, non-suspended status

    • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English

  • Physical & Mental Requirements:

    • Ability to work in confined spaces and under varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays

    • Frequently required to walk, jog, bend, stoop, climb, crawl, squat, and stand for long periods

    • Capable of lifting and moving up to 100 lbs

    • Must use critical thinking skills under stress to make sound judgments

  • Work Environment: Exposure to hazards such as traffic, body fluids, chemicals, smoke, dust, heat, cold, noise, and odors. Duties are performed indoors and outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
