Casual Paramedic Instructor – UPMC Center for Emergency Medicine

Overview

The UPMC Center for Emergency Medicine is seeking a Casual Paramedic Instructor to support its Paramedic Education Programs. This role will assist the Parademic Program Director in planning, coordinating, and delivering classroom instruction for students enrolled in EMT and Paramedic programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver course content as assigned by the Paramedic Program Director, following Department of Health and DOT guidelines

  • Create and administer quizzes, homework, and other assignments to evaluate student learning

  • Monitor student performance and report concerns regarding academic progress to the Program Director

  • Serve as a professional role model, demonstrating appropriate attitudes and behaviors in the classroom

  • Notify the Coordinator of EMS Education promptly if unable to cover assigned material to allow for alternative arrangements

  • Provide additional support or individual tutoring for students struggling with course material

  • Review and prepare examinations prior to administration and conduct standardized testing as scheduled

  • Start and conclude classes on time; rescheduling requires prior approval from the Paramedic Program Director

  • Maintain accurate student and course records following standardized protocols

  • Conduct classes in compliance with all Center, State, Federal, and AMA training standards

  • Offer constructive feedback, guidance, and academic counseling to students

  • Grade all assignments, quizzes, and exams in a timely manner

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Certification as an allied health professional, registered nurse, or licensed physician preferred

  • Knowledge and proficiency in using computers, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Professional appearance and demeanor

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment

Licenses, Certifications, and Clearances

  • EMT-Paramedic or NREMT-P certification (National Registry Paramedic)

  • Act 34 clearance or equivalent background check
