Medical Assistant – Shelby Township, MI (13-Week Contract)

Position Overview:
Pride Health is actively seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to join our team at our Shelby Township, MI location. This role is offered as a 13-week contract with the possibility of extension based on performance and business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial patient screenings in line with protocols set by the supervising provider.

  • Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare them for treatments, procedures, and evaluations.

  • Collect and record vital signs and detailed medical histories in the electronic health record (EHR).

  • Assist providers during examinations, procedures, and treatments, following departmental policies.

  • Prepare and administer medications or immunizations as ordered, ensuring accurate documentation according to the “six rights” of medication administration.

  • Maintain precise patient records of all care provided in the EHR.

  • Respond promptly to emergencies and patient inquiries via phone, messaging, or MyChart, documenting actions in the EHR.

  • Enter medication, lab, and radiology orders for provider review and approval.

  • Educate patients and caregivers on post-visit instructions and care plans.

  • Process medication refill requests following established protocols.

  • Collect and handle patient specimens; perform CLIA-waived laboratory tests.

  • Conduct electrocardiograms, respiratory, and other diagnostic tests as needed.

  • Perform phlebotomy, including venipuncture and capillary sampling.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant.

  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association.

  • One of the following:

    • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with a minimum 160-hour clinical externship.

    • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program without externship but with at least 1 year of clinical experience within the last 5 years.

    • Certified Medical Assistant with at least 5 years of clinical experience.

    • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Licensed Paramedic/EMT with at least 1 year of clinical experience in the past 5 years.

    • Military-trained personnel with at least 1 year of clinical medical experience in the past 5 years.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Proficiency with basic computer functions and typing.

  • Experience in performing a wide range of clinical procedures in outpatient care.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and organizational skills.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Familiarity with EPIC or other electronic medical record systems.

Schedule:

  • Monday: 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM

  • Tuesday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

  • Wednesday: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM

  • Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Compensation:

  • Hourly pay: $16.00 – $19.00, based on experience, credentials, and education.
