Job Summary
The Advanced EMT (AEMT) provides comprehensive patient care in pre-hospital environments, operating within the scope of practice as defined by the New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH).
Key Responsibilities

Ensure ambulance readiness by conducting thorough inspections and completing pre-run checks.

Assess dispatch information and environmental conditions to determine appropriate response measures.

Evaluate patient condition, including the nature and severity of illness or injury, and deliver emergency care in accordance with NYS BLS, AAREMS, and ALS protocols.

Assist the emergency crew with patient handling, treatment, lifting, transport, and overall care.

Identify the need for additional resources or specialized services and coordinate accordingly.

Accurately document patient assessments and treatments in the Patient Care Report (PCR) and verbally communicate pertinent details as needed.

Provide care in alignment with written physician orders during inter-facility transfers.

Follow proper radio communication procedures according to county and departmental policies.

Continuously monitor patients during transport and care.

Maintain ambulance readiness, restocking and servicing equipment and supplies after each run.

Collaborate effectively with other emergency agencies when required.

Comply with hospital and department policies, infection control procedures, and safety protocols.

Maintain professional conduct and communicate courteously with patients, family members, bystanders, hospital personnel, and other agencies.

Perform additional tasks as assigned to support patient care and operational efficiency.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience:

Minimum of one year of EMS experience preferred.
Education:
-
High school diploma or equivalent required; further EMS education preferred.
Licenses & Certifications:

Valid NYS EMT-Intermediate, Critical Care EMT, or Paramedic certification.

Current BLS certification required.
-
ACLS and PALS certification required for Critical Care or Paramedic roles.
-
Valid NYS driver’s license with a clean driving record.
-
Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) or equivalent preferred.
