Position Overview
The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure donor eligibility for plasmapheresis, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), FDA and state regulations, OSHA, CLIA, cGMP standards, and internal company protocols. The role safeguards donor health, maintains product quality, and ensures compliance with all applicable guidelines.
Key Responsibilities

Conduct initial and repeat donor History and Physical examinations to determine eligibility.

Explain the plasmapheresis process and obtain informed consent from donors.

Discuss potential risks associated with plasmapheresis.
-
Monitor and assess donor reactions, providing immediate care when necessary and following physician standing orders.

Notify the physician promptly of any emergency situations.

Act as a liaison between the center, physicians, and external medical facilities.

Review donor lab results and collection records to ensure continued eligibility.

Provide confidential counseling to ineligible or positive-result donors.

Maintain strict confidentiality of donor and staff information.

Perform routine donor floor checks during plasmapheresis sessions.

Participate in Quality Assurance activities to monitor procedural compliance.

Assist in employee safety, training, and educational programs.

Maintain emergency medical supplies and provide first aid to staff when required.

Perform tasks such as HCT and protein testing, calibration, statistical analysis, and machine maintenance at CA centers (RN only).

Assist in reception, donor floor, and plasma processing as directed.

Support employee health initiatives, including counseling and exposure follow-ups.
Reporting and Accountability

Consult the Medical Director regarding donor eligibility, medication issues, or unusual cases.

Report any safety, procedural, or regulatory concerns promptly.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and company regulations at all times.

Cover assigned hours and coordinate substitutes if needed.
Additional Duties

Evaluate donor suitability using medical knowledge and SOP guidelines.

Respond to donor reactions and provide appropriate treatment.

Oversee reception and donor floor operations as required.

Review and comply with SOP, cGMP, and company policies annually.

Perform any additional tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications
-
Must be a graduate of an accredited educational program and hold current state licensure.

Physician Substitute – EMT: EMT-Basic or higher.
-
Physician Substitute – RN: Registered Nurse or Licensed Physician Assistant.

Physician Substitute – LVN/LPN: Licensed LVN or LPN.
-
Maintain active state licensure and comply with all federal, state, and local regulations.

Current CPR certification required.

Complete Physician Substitute/Physician Assistant training under the Medical Director.

Proficient in computer usage and data entry.
-
Certification in Donor Screening required; additional certifications in Phlebotomy and Plasma Processing may be required.

Ability to travel for training if necessary.

Must be proficient in English; bilingual English/Spanish required.
Physical Requirements

Ability to talk, hear, and use hands/fingers for equipment operation.

Stand for extended periods (2–3 hours), walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch as needed.

Ability to read, type, and use computer equipment.
-
Manual dexterity for all phases of plasmapheresis.
-
Ability to lift, tug, and pull up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment

Routine use of office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, and filing systems.

Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and conditions common to a donor center.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, lab coats, and safety eyewear is required.
