Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is a public two-year technical and community college serving students across South Carolina. The college provides more than 75 associate degrees, diplomas, and certificate programs designed to support rapid workforce entry or seamless transfer to four-year institutions. HGTC operates three accessible campuses located in Myrtle Beach, Conway, and Georgetown.

Position Overview: Associate Professor – EMS/Paramedic

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department at HGTC is seeking qualified applicants for an Associate Professor of EMS/Paramedic Studies. This role focuses on delivering high-quality education across multiple levels of EMS training, including EMT, Advanced EMT, and Paramedic programs.

The selected faculty member will design instructional content, deliver classroom and hands-on laboratory instruction, and assess student performance in academic, lab, and clinical environments. Instruction must align with National EMS Education Standards as well as requirements set forth by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), Division of EMS.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and present lectures for EMS coursework

  • Design and facilitate laboratory activities that reinforce didactic instruction

  • Create and maintain course materials aligned with established learning outcomes

  • Provide student support through scheduled office hours, tutoring, and academic advising

  • Assess student progress through written exams, skills evaluations, and scenario-based testing

  • Maintain accurate student records and prepare required reports

  • Participate in EMS program planning, evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Assist with coordination of clinical and field internships in collaboration with the EMS Program Director

  • Supervise students during clinical rotations and provide guidance as needed

  • Maintain and manage instructional equipment and training supplies

  • Attend departmental meetings, advisory board sessions, and college-wide functions

  • Support and promote the mission, values, and goals of the college

Compensation & Benefits

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a related healthcare field (Bachelor’s degree preferred)

  • Current South Carolina Paramedic licensure

  • Active National Registry Paramedic certification

  • CPR Instructor certification

  • South Carolina EMT Instructor certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • South Carolina Advanced EMT and/or Paramedic Instructor certification

  • Trauma education instructor credentials (ITLS or PHTLS)

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Instructor certification

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Instructor certification
