Job Overview

St. David’s Medical Center is seeking a qualified and compassionate Paramedic to join its Emergency Department team on a PRN basis. This hospital-based position involves supporting emergency care teams, monitoring patient conditions, assisting with clinical procedures, and helping ensure a safe and efficient patient experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess patients, collect relevant clinical information, and communicate findings to physicians and other healthcare professionals.
• Support patient safety throughout the Emergency Department care process.
• Help coordinate and facilitate the movement of patients through emergency services.
• Communicate with incoming EMS crews and receive patient reports through radio communication.
• Educate patients and families and encourage their involvement in the plan of care.
• Administer IV fluids and respiratory treatments within the appropriate scope of practice.
• Perform CPR and assist with advanced cardiac life support when required.
• Assist with splinting, wound care, oxygen administration, and suture procedures.
• Prepare equipment and assist with chest tube procedures, central line placement, lumbar punctures, thoracentesis, and other clinical procedures.
• Perform or assist with suctioning, catheter placement, enemas, and insertion of oral and nasal airways as authorized.
• Maintain, inspect, clean, and restock stretchers, cabinets, treatment areas, and medical equipment.
• Complete accurate patient documentation and maintain proficiency with the hospital’s electronic charting system.
• Maintain professional relationships with patients, families, physicians, nurses, EMS personnel, and other hospital staff.

Qualifications

Experience

• At least 1 year of experience in an applicable healthcare or emergency medical field.

Education

• Completion of an accredited Paramedic or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training program.
• Graduation from an accredited Associate Degree program in Paramedic or EMT studies is preferred.

Required Licenses & Certifications

• Current Texas Department of State Health Services EMT-Paramedic (EMT-P) license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.

Certifications must meet applicable St. David’s Healthcare requirements.
