Job Description

This position involves performing Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) duties along with fire prevention and safety responsibilities across facilities and operational areas.


Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to aircraft-related incidents, including helipad standbys, in-flight emergencies, and flight line accidents.

  • Support emergency operations involving aircraft by carrying out rescue, extrication, fire suppression, medical assistance, fuel spill containment, runway readiness, and debris removal.

  • Handle structural fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, and other emergency situations within the facility and surrounding grounds.

  • Execute firefighting tasks such as suppression, ventilation, forcible entry, search and rescue, salvage, and overhaul.

  • Identify and connect to water sources; deploy hoses, operate nozzles, and assist with water stream direction; utilize fire extinguishers and ladders as required.

  • Operate a variety of firefighting tools and systems, including hoses, nozzles, appliances, and sprinkler/standpipe components.

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair fire apparatus, equipment, protective gear, vehicles, and medical supplies to ensure operational readiness.

  • Drive and operate emergency response vehicles safely and effectively.

  • Participate in ongoing training, drills, and safety exercises to maintain certifications and readiness.

  • Communicate clearly via radio with dispatch, medical personnel, and team members during operations.

  • Conduct building inspections, hazard assessments, and pre-incident planning, including identifying hydrant locations and facility layouts.

  • Perform fire prevention inspections to identify risks and ensure compliance with safety regulations; assist with fire investigations and reporting.

  • Inspect and maintain fire extinguishers, emergency wash stations, AED units, and specialized suppression systems.

  • Complete assigned projects and support operational tasks, including aircraft fueling/defueling activities when required.


Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred


Experience & Certifications

  • One to three years of relevant experience preferred

  • Required certifications: Firefighter I & II, Hazardous Materials Awareness/Operations (Hazmat AO), Airport Firefighter, and EMT-B

  • Additional certifications are considered an asset

  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if required


Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Work is performed in both controlled indoor settings and high-risk environments, including areas near active flight lines and variable weather conditions.

  • Must have adequate vision (correctable) and hearing to perform duties safely.

  • Physical tasks include standing, walking, climbing, crouching, balancing, and working in confined spaces.

  • Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.

  • Responsible for handling hazardous materials in accordance with safety and regulatory standards.

  • Required to wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection, helmets, eye/face protection, and other safety gear.
