Position Overview
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is responsible for delivering emergency medical care in pre-hospital settings and assisting with patient care within the emergency department. Duties include evaluating patient conditions, providing immediate treatment, transporting patients safely, and preparing emergency vehicles and equipment for the next response.
Primary Duties

Conduct daily inspections of the assigned ambulance at the start of each shift to ensure readiness.

Drive and operate emergency vehicles safely while following all applicable laws and procedures.

Perform thorough patient evaluations, identifying symptoms and medical concerns.

Provide emergency medical treatment and basic life support in pre-hospital environments.

Stabilize patients and monitor their condition during care and transport.

Maintain control of the scene until responsibility is transferred to the appropriate authority.

Clean, sanitize, and restock ambulances after each transport.

Assist with patient care duties in hospital departments when assigned.

Accurately document patient care and complete required reports and billing paperwork.

Maintain an organized and sanitary workspace.

Follow all organizational policies related to compliance, safety, and patient privacy (HIPAA).

Handle confidential patient information responsibly.

Support emergency department staff by registering patients, obtaining vital signs, and transporting patients as needed.
Requirements
-
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Valid Illinois driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-Basic) certification.

Active CPR certification for healthcare providers.

Pediatric Education for Prehospital Providers (PEPP) certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
Physical Requirements

Frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, hearing, and use of hands for equipment handling.

Occasional bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and pushing or pulling objects.

Ability to lift or move up to 100 pounds while assisting patients or handling equipment.
Vision Requirements

Ability to see clearly at both near and far distances.
-
Adequate color recognition, peripheral awareness, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
