This is a PRN (as-needed) position.
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) provides direct patient care under the supervision of licensed healthcare providers, following hospital protocols. All care and interventions are documented accurately.
Patient Population: All age groups
Education Requirements: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent vocational training
Licensure/Certifications:
- Current Florida EMT license or Florida Paramedic license
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association
Experience:
- Minimal clinical experience required (less than 1 year)
- Preferred: 1+ year of healthcare experience
Essential Skills & Knowledge:
- Understanding of patient care and basic human needs across all ages
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques
- Awareness of acute and chronic disease processes
- Understanding of universal precautions
- Basic anatomy and physiology knowledge
- Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies
- Maintain patient confidentiality
- Proficiency in English (reading and writing)
- Recognition of critical EKG rhythms
- Perform electrocardiograms (EKGs)
- IV line insertion
- Urinary catheter placement
- Gastric tube insertion
- Phlebotomy procedures
- Basic wound care
- Splinting musculoskeletal injuries
- Operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Administer chest compressions
- Eye irrigation techniques
