Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of tasks in fire suppression, emergency medical services (EMS), rescues, hazardous material incidents, fire prevention, inspections, and other specialized duties according to department policies, procedures, and directives.

  • Operate fire apparatus and equipment during both emergency responses and training exercises, following departmental standards.

  • Adhere to all department protocols, policies, and procedures.

  • Complete additional tasks as assigned.

Supervision:

  • Work under the guidance of department officers.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong understanding of Incident Management System (IMS), fireground strategy, rescue procedures, and EMS patient care standards.

  • Ability to work effectively in a combined department with volunteers, part-time and full-time firefighters, and separate EMS personnel.

  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • TCFP Structural Firefighter – Basic certification.

  • TDSHS EMT – Basic certification.

  • Valid Texas Class “C” driver’s license.

  • Completion of NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800 within probation period.

  • TCFP Driver/Operator-Pumper certification to be obtained during probation.

  • Texas Class “B” Exempt driver’s license to be obtained within probation.

  • Pass annual EMS protocol testing as required by the medical director.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • TDL Class B driver’s license.

  • TCFP Driver/Operator-Pumper certification.

  • TCFP Hazardous Materials Technician certification.

  • TEEX Structural Collapse Technician certification.

  • TDSHS EMT-Intermediate or EMT-Paramedic certifications.

  • Minimum of two years experience in a combination fire department.

Physical and Job Requirements:

  • Ability to carry 100 lbs for at least 200 feet while wearing full protective gear.

  • Operate hoses, ladders, and tools on various surfaces and heights while wearing protective equipment.

  • Perform rescues in buildings, vehicles, and machinery using power and hand tools.

  • Provide patient care following state and departmental EMS protocols, including assessment, treatment, and documentation.

  • Maintain safety standards, protective equipment, and respiratory gear.

  • Drive and operate fire department vehicles, including pumps and aerial apparatus.

  • Inspect and service SCBA, accountability systems, and tools daily.

  • Restock fire and EMS supplies to maintain readiness.

  • Perform duties in all weather conditions and noisy environments.

  • Maintain station and apparatus, performing minor maintenance as required.

  • Participate in ongoing department training and obtain advanced certifications, such as Hazardous Materials Technician and Structural Collapse Technician.

  • Available for mandatory recall during disasters or extreme conditions.

Certification Pay (Monthly):

  • TDSHS EMT-Intermediate: $150

  • TDSHS EMT-Paramedic: $334

  • TCFP Hazardous Materials Technician: $25

  • TCFP Instructor I: $25

  • TCFP Structural Firefighter – Intermediate: $25

  • TCFP Structural Firefighter – Advanced: $50

  • TEEX Structural Collapse Technician: $25

Only the highest levels of EMS and Firefighter certifications are eligible for pay incentives.

Hiring Process:

  • Applicants meeting qualifications will be invited to testing on February 24, 2026, which includes both a physical agility test and a panel interview conducted the same day.

  • Conditional offers will be made within 24 hours of testing.
